Our Dispensary and Our Choices
With so much now known on the benefits and pit-falls of supplementation, and with an amazing number of ranges from which to chosoe, qualified Naturopaths are the best people to advise you on which supplements will work best for you and your family. Something as simple as a multivitamin will provide better benefits within a month if prescribed accurately, than one endorsed in a simple retail ‘over-the-counter’ sale for many years. With so many ranges available, it can be hard to know the difference, which one is better, which one works and which ones actually contain what the labels say.
Supplements stocked at our dispensary are not available over the counter at health food shops, supermarkets or chemists, as they are restricted for prescription only by a qualified practitioner.
We choose our supplements on quality, their manufacturing process, the raw ingredients used and absence of allergenic fillers, binders and chemicals, with the assurance that they contain exactly what is on the label, and also price.
Importantly, our products are chosen to deliver results – seen in the array of assessments used at follow-up visits - one of the key factors in our choice. We use only the best, based on the results we see.
Recent studies found less than half of the Ginseng supplements tested were true to label, with similar problems in Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Saw Palmetto and several arthritic formulae, while many brands of fish oils contained highly toxic heavy metals and PCB chemicals, and 1/3 of calcium supplements tested contained excessive lead levels.
Why Should You Supplement Your Diet?
Thirty years of research has shown that most chronic diseases in first world nations are nutrition related. Statistics reveal that, although Australians and New Zealanders are consuming more nutrients per capita than ever, they seem to be receiving less nourishment. This may be due to a number of environmental and lifestyle stresses, such as soil depletion from over-worked farming lands, pollution, strenuous exercise, alcohol, coffee, processed foods, and even prescription drugs, among others.
Supplements are experiencing a ‘big boom industry’ over recent years, and we regularly see the effects of excessive self-medicating, poorly chosen, expensive or ineffective supplementation among new clients.
Essential Health can assist with assessing your needs through a variety of testing procedures
to ensure you are achieving the outcome you are after, in the most effective and logical way.
